With ISO type coding,
what is the format of the encodable characters ?
The format of the tracks encoded in ISO format is the
following:
- Track 1 : 79 alphanumerical
characters (letters in uppercase), the separator
character being the sign ^.
- Track 2 : 40 numerical
characters, the separator character being the sign
=.
- Track 3 : 107 numerical
characters, the separator character being the sign
=.
|
|
What is the printing
resolution?
The resolution of the printing heads is 300 DPI, which
gives a printing possibility of 12 pts per millimetre.
This resolution is fine for printing photos and other

A white line
appears on the printout.
After several printouts, you might get the result below
:

This may be caused by two factors
:
- Multi-use transit cards - use
as fare cards in city buses, subways, toll roads and
ferries
- Stored value cards - transit
cards double as phone cards or discount cards at
retail outlets
- Rapid, on-site card
personalization
- Tracking information about
your customers high volume travel times and routes
- Partnering with area schools
to create customized student bus passes and loyal
riders
- Controlling doors at building
entrances and secured interior areas

least to be able to work under this environment. |
|
What is the MTBF of
an EVOLIS printer ?
Endurance tests have been carried out on the Evolis
printers in order to determine the minimum working time
before any breakdown.
We have therefore been able to
establish the following MTBF expressed in hours of work:
| New Pebble |
2000 hours |
| Tattoo |
1000 hours |
| Quantum |
3000 hours |
MTBF : Mean Time
Between failure |
|
On what kinds of
support can printing be performed?
All Evolis printers have been developed to print in
sublimation and heat transfer on a laminated PVC
support. Under certain conditions, it is possible to use
other materials, for instance, the R2019 heat transfer
black ribbon enables the use of paper cards.
Contact the Kestronics Customer Service to confirm the
possibility of printing on your support. |
|
My magnetic cards
are not encoded.
If following magnetic coding, the magnetic band contains
no information or wrong information, the following
points must be checked (see instructions).
Instructions:
Open the Dialogue with printer
box.

Then send the command Rmc. Make
sure that the printer replies correctly to the
coerciveness of your cards. If not, use the Pmc command
to set it up. This command is described in the " Evolis
Programming guide "
Then check that the data you want to encode correspond
to ISO standards. If the encoding still fails to work,
it may be necessary to readjust the magnetic encoding
head. |
|
Can I print smart
cards without contact ?
Printing on contact-free smart cards is performed in the
same way as with standard cards. Certain aspects of the
card must be taken care of for a correct printing
result.
In fact, the flatness of the card in the position of the
chip and the aerial must be perfect. If not, the
smallest surface fault will be visible in the printout. |
|
Can I encode
anything other than ISO format ?
All printers fitted with a magnetic encoder are set up
to be able to encode data in standard ISO format. Using
the driver parameters, it is possible to encode all
kinds of data in a Hexadecimal code.
Instructions:
Open the driver properties in the
Tools section :

The click on the Encoding
definition button :

Select c2 in the track format. You
can then send your data to the printer in a Hexadecimal
format. |

printer directly to a company network, you will need a
printer server to be able to do so. Evolis has selected
the Axis 5300 printing server due to its easy
installation and flexibility. In fact, this server works
as well on Windows as on Macintosh. |
|
Can we print on
smart cards ?
Printing on ISO xxxx smart cards is possible with any
printer of the Evolis range except for the Tattoo. In
fact, this standard specifies the height of the chip to
prevent the printing head from damaging it. However, the
chip should be safeguarded in order not to damage it
when printing.
Instructions:
Make sure your visual is not
placed on the chip.

Set up your driver so that
protective varnish is not placed on the chip. To do
this, open the driver properties in the Graphic
tab : Select smart cards in the Varnish panel
section.
 |
|
Is it possible to
print on both sides of the card ?
It is entirely possible to print on both sides of a
plastic card. Depending on the model you use, to print
on the rear you must either reload and turn over the
card by hand or set up the driver for it to do this
automatically.
Instructions:
In the case of Dualys and Quantum
printers with a card turning station, the driver must be
set up suitably. To do this, open the printer properties
of the Graphic section :
